When Disputed People Games first stepped into the  Solarpunk Game Jam, hosted by Trevor Noah’s Day Zero Productions, the team wasn’t just aiming to make a cool African inspired game but hoped to contribute to a larger vision. The theme of Solarpunk invited developers to imagine a hopeful, sustainable future powered by renewable energy, ecological balance, and innovative communities. 

Out of this game jam came Reclaim (Read: https://itthynkgaming.co.za/disputed-people-games-solar-punk-game-jam-submission-reclaim/ ), a minimalist, movement-driven platformer set in a post-collapse world where nature has reclaimed everything, beauty and danger intertwined. Now, fast forward to the present, Reclaim has officially been selected to showcase at Playtopia 2025 event, happening from the 5^th-6^th December 2025 at Homecoming Centre, Cape Town. 

The dev team took it upon themselves to polish, refine and expand the game to offer players an even richer experience. The core of Reclaim remains the same: explore, navigate and outmaneuver rapidly growing vegetation that brings both life and risk. But now, the experience has been elevated with a stronger storytelling and an immersive atmosphere. 

This is what players can expect from the updated version:  

Intro Cutscene: 

• A new opening sequence that establishes the tone of the world. 

• It highlights the environmental backstory and alludes to why the revitalised vegetation can still harm the player. 

Sustainability and Quality of Life: 

• Several important fixes addressing crashes and other issues. 

• Refined movement for a smoother feel. 

• More stable procedural generation to prevent players from slipping off the map or landing in invalid spaces. 

Audio Update: 

• Comprehensive audio pass including new sound effects. 

• A dynamic music system that adjusts its intensity based on your proximity to the rapidly growing vegetation. 

• The overall soundscape now supports the atmosphere and pacing of the game more effectively. 

The new version is available to play on Itch.io and if you’re attending Playtopia this December, you can experience it live, meet the devs and share your thoughts directly with the team. Your feedback from the first version helped shape this update, and this showcase is a good opportunity to continue the conversation.
