Fak’ugesi Presents: The Power Surge

The Fak’ugesi Festival 2025 returns from 7 – 12 October 2025 with a bold theme: Power Surge. Known as an event that celebrates digital creativity, Fak’ugesi invites you to 6 days of innovation, culture, play, and imagination at the heart of Braamfontein’s Tshimologong Precinct. 

This year’s programme is charged with energy- featuring talks, showcases, installations, and experiences that highlight Africa’s place at the cutting edge of digital creativity. At the core of this year’s festival is The Surge Experience, a three-step immersive journey across the Wits Anglo American Digital Dome, the Origins Centre, and the Tshimologong Precinct. 

Audiences of all ages are invited to travel through three electrifying worlds: 

  • Afriverse – A 360° signature Fak’ugesi experience where digital storytelling, Afrofuturist narratives, and sensory art come together. Explore everything from Cosmoceno to the bold Art and Entertainment Editions. 
  • Proto-Surge – Taking you back to the roots of Ancestral Intelligence and discover how Africa’s innovators shaped global art, technology, and symbolism. 
  • Future Focus – Tomorrow’s creators shake hands with today’s creators and changemakers! Dive into game design, AR, VR, and immersive projects shaping the future of digital creativity. 

Festival Highlights 

  • 9 October – Pitch Day 
    A Shark Tank–style showcase with pitches, talks, and networking by Africa’s talents in animation, video games, and immersive media. 
  • 10 October – Public Programme Day 1 
    Cutting-edge panels, showcases, and experiences spotlighting the latest in digital art, design, and storytelling. 
    – Fak’ugesi Awards (Invite Only) – Honouring excellence in African digital creativity across animation, media, digital arts, and design. 
    Silent Disco – After the Awards, celebrate 10 years of the Electric South with a silent disco. 
  • 11 October – Public Programme Day 2 
    Panels and workshops from Africa’s most daring creatives, technologists, storytellers, and cultural hackers. 
  • 12 October – Family Day 
    A playful close to the festival featuring showcases, and karaoke for kids, parents, and families. 
  • Daily Showcases (9 – 12 October) 
    Experience groundbreaking exhibitions in extended reality, animation, and video games throughout the festival.
