The gaming industry in South Africa is leveling up, and the Jobs Fund is pressing start on something big.

We’re excited to share thatItThynk Gaminghas been featured as part of the groundbreaking “Digital Livelihoods: SA’s Game Development Rise” initiative, proudly supported by the Jobs Fund. This pioneering project is the first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa, aiming to unlock the full potential of South Africa’s rapidly growing game development sector.

Tapping into the $187 billion global gaming market, this initiative is more than just funding, it’s about building a sustainable ecosystem. The project focuses on tackling key barriers that have long held back aspiring developers: high development costs, limited market access, and lack of industry infrastructure. With support from the Jobs Fund, developers now have access to training, incubation, and funding which arecrucial resources for growth, especially in economically marginalized areas.

As mobile users continue to dominate the African gaming market, making up a massive 90% of the audience, the Africa’s gaming revenues are expected to surpass $1 billion by 2026. That’s not just a stat but an opportunity.
Gaming studios like Nyamakop and Pineapple on Pizza are one of the studios leading the way in producing culturally relevant games that speak directly to African audiences while gaining traction on the global stage.
For ItThynk Gaming, this recognition marks a major milestone. Being featured in a national campaign that celebrates innovation and creativity in gaming confirms what we’ve always believed: local studios have world-class talent, stories, and vision. Through the Digital Livelihoods program, we’re not only creating exciting new games- but we’re also building careers, communities, and futures.
This initiative also highlights a broader need for cohesive government support, including legislative incentives, public-private partnerships, and education pipelines to keep this momentum going.
As the gaming industry continues to evolve, we’re proud to stand alongside the Jobs Fund and other trailblazing studios shaping the future of South African gaming. The message is clear: with the right support, South Africa is ready to become a powerhouse in global game development. Watch this space.
