Future Nations School Career Expo with Khumo Moerane

As the global gaming industry continues to expand, it brings with it new opportunities for young people eager to learn and carve out a future in this dynamic space.

Recently, Khumo Moerane had the opportunity to speak at a Career Expo hosted by Future Nation Schools in Lyndhurst, where he shared valuable insights into the world of gaming and the wide range of careers it offers. His talk covered key aspects of game design and the broader gaming industry, offering learners a clearer picture of what it takes to thrive in this fast-growing field.

Among the students inspired was Grade 11 learner Unarine Makungo, who expressed her excitement at discovering Afro-centric games—a representation she rarely sees in mainstream gaming. Motivated by this, she took the initiative to shadow the Disputed People Games team, eager to learn more about the inner workings of the industry, from game development to marketing.

During her time with the team, Una gained first-hand exposure to the creative process, discovering not only the technical and artistic demands of game development but also the importance of collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity. She also observed how diverse roles within a studio come together to bring games to life.

Her experience highlights the importance of giving young people opportunities to explore and learn in industries that are still evolving. Just as the gaming industry continues to grow globally, platforms like these Career Expos ensure that the next generation of African creatives can see themselves as active participants in shaping its future.
