“If it’s nice, play it twice!” is the energy for Playtopia 2025, as Disputed People Games steps into the festival with full momentum by showcasing Reclaim and taking the stage to speak about gaming in Africa. All roads lead to the Homecoming Centre, Cape Town, from 5-6 December 2025, where gaming, creativity and knowledge are explored.

Playtopia is an annual festival for Indie games and immersive art. It’s a space where South African and international creators gather to celebrate the gaming scene, share ideas, build networks across disciplines and showcase their work.
This year, Khumo Moerane joins the speaker lineup on day 1 from 10:20-10:40, with the topic discussion “Questions aka Do South Africans Know We Make Games?”. He will unpack the reality that most South Africans are still unaware of the local game development industry and how industries like music, fashion, and sports have managed to root themselves firmly in national pride. His talk will highlight how the gaming industry can learn from each other and grow visible in this space.

There’s more! Reclaim has been selected as one of the showcase games for 2025, following last year’s showing of Khamani: The Lion of Summer (Read: https://itthynkgaming.co.za/playtopia-2024/ )With the newest update to Reclaim, festival-goers can look forward to having an improved experience, complete with hands-on play, devs’ interaction and opportunities to offer feedback. Other showcases at the festival include Metavoidal (Yellow Lab Games), Axe Me Why (Atrybute), Relooted (Nyamakop), and many more.

For those who will be attending, don’t miss the panel discussions that will go on for both days from 9:30-17:00. Saturday will conclude with the festival’s awards ceremony and an after-party. Tickets are live on AirDosh – https://tickets.airdosh.co.za/event/ from R150.
